The Defence Headquarters has publicly confirmed the deployment of approximately 100 United States military personnel and associated with equipment in bilateral security cooperation amid intensity insurgent and banditry threats

To:

The contingent arrived at Bauchi Airfield following formal engagements between Nigerian and U.S. defence delegations, according to a statement issued by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.

The personnel, deployed at the invitation of the Federal Government, are described by the military high command as technical specialists assigned to advisory, training, and intelligence sharing roles.

Defence authorities emphasized that they are not combat forces and will operate under the authority and control of the Nigerian Government, working in close coordination with the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

According to the statement, the collab...

oration, framed within a structured bilateral defence framework, is designed to enhance Nigeria’s operational capabilities against entrenched terrorist threats and improve protection for vulnerable communities.

Nigerian troops are expected to begin joint training exercises and intelligence focused initiatives with their U.S. counterparts to strengthen tactical proficiency and operational planning.

The confirmation underscores Abuja’s growing reliance on international partnerships to confront security challenges, including insurgency and trans regional bandit networks. Government officials characterized the arrangement as a response to a formal request for targeted capacity building support and technical assistance.

In a related development, security operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services successfully neutralised notorious bandit leader Kachalla Kabiru and several of his lieutenants during a coordinated operation in Kogi State.

The offensive reportedly combined precision air and ground operations following weeks of intelligence gathering, leading to his elimination at a forest hideout identified through sustained surveillance.

Kabiru had been implicated in kidnapping and banditry operations across multiple states, including Kogi, Kwara, Benue, Enugu, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo.

Security analysts believe his removal could disrupt criminal logistics networks operating across the North Central corridor and adjoining regions.

The twin developments, a deepening security partnership with the United States and the takedown of a key bandit leader, signal an intensification of Nigeria’s multi front campaign against armed groups.

Authorities say the strategy aims to combine international technical support with sustained indigenous operations to stem the persistent tide of violence affecting communities nationwide.
