conspicuously absent. Hausa is taught. Yoruba is examined. Igbo is preserved. But Edo, one of the foundational languages of this nation, is denied its rightful place. This is not an oversight, it is an injustice. To exclude the Edo language is to diminish the legacy of a kingdom that helped shape Nigeria’s story. It is to silence millions who speak, sing, and pray in the tongue of their fathers. It is to allow the erosion of cultural memory in a nation already fractured by neglect. I call upon the Federal Ministry of Education, the custodians of our academic future, and WAEC, the arbiter of standards in West Africa, to correct this wrong. The inclusion of Edo (Bini) as an examinable subject in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination is not merely a matter of fairness, it is a matter of survival. Languages die when institutions fail them. Heritage fades when nations ignore it. Let the government act with vision. Let WAEC embrace justice. Let Nigeria prove that it values all its children, not only those whose languages are already secure. By including Edo language in our schools and examinations, we are not only safeguarding a tongue, we are fortifying the spirit of a people, honoring one of the world’s great civilizations, and ensuring that the past has a living voice in the future. The time for excuses has passed. The time for restoration has come. Edo must take its rightful place in our national curriculum.
