+ TENSION IN ABUJA AS PENGASSAN AND TUC STAGE MASSIVE PROTEST AT FEDERAL MINISTRY OF FINANCE

Abuja is witnessing a fresh wave of industrial unrest as members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have stormed the Federal Ministry of Finance in a coordinated protest.

Chanting solidarity songs and brandishing placards, the protesters are demanding the immediate payment of withheld salaries, pensions, and outstanding allowances owed to workers across key sectors.

The demonstration, which began in the early hours of Wednesday morning, has brought parts of the Central Area to a temporary standstill.

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance have responded to the protest, assuring the labor unions that payments would be processed and disbursed within 48 hours.

However, union leaders have warned that failure to meet this deadline will trigger a nationwide shutdown of oil and gas operations.

This protest is part of a growing climate of agitation in Nigeria's capital.

Earlier this month, demonstrations were also held demanding the release of activist VeryDarkMan and calling for urgent reforms to cybercrime laws and governance structures.

A Call to All Africans: Unite Against Imperialism

By: Edward   Astaire

May 17, 2025, 7:28 pm

Fellow Africans, both on our beloved continent and across the diaspora,

In this pivotal moment of our history, we, the sons and daughters of Africa, must rise with unwavering resolve to support President Ibrahim Traoré of Burkina Faso. His courageous stand against the lingering shadows of colonialism and imperialism is not just a national endeavor but a continental clarion call for true independence and self-determination.

President Traoré has taken bold steps to reclaim Burkina Faso's sovereignty. He has expelled foreign troops and diplomats who, under the guise of assistance, perpetuated control over African affairs. He has initiated policies to ensure that the wealth of Burkina Faso benefits its people, not foreign interests.

These actions have not gone unnoticed. The forces of imperialism, threatened by the prospect of a truly independent Africa, have launched campaigns to undermine his leadership. Propaganda and political pressure aim to destabilize his government and deter others from following his example.

But we must not be swayed.

We must remember the lessons of our forebears who fought for freedom. Their struggle was not in vain, and neither is ours. The path to true liberation is fraught with challenges, but with unity and determination, we can overcome them.

Let us, therefore, stand in solidarity with President Traoré. Let us support his vision of an Africa free from external domination, where our resources serve our people, and our destiny is determined by our own hands.

This is not merely about one nation; it is about the soul of Africa.

Let us rise, united and resolute, to shape a future where our children can live with dignity, pride, and freedom.
In unity and determination,

Prince Joseph Ogiehor

On behalf of all well-meaning African leaders and citizens
